Attempting to be Vegan in Mammoth Lakes, CA
After leaving Death Valley, I headed north to Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest. To see the trees one must drive the winding road to an elevation of 10,000 feet. The drive was intimidating, but I passed people who were riding their bicycles to get there!
I stayed in Mammoth Lakes where I checked out two restaurants which were both in walking distance from the motel.I had the tempeh sandwich (Organic ginger soy marinated tempeh grilled and served on toasted bread with avocado with home made Garlic Lemon Hummus) with a smoothie from Stellar Brew (3280 Main St, Mammoth Lakes, CA ).The sandwich was filling and possessed a wonderful combination of flavors.
I wanted a small snack in the evening and was able to get vegan garlic bread sprinkled with daiya cheese from Z Pizza (26 Old Mammoth Rd, Mammoth Lakes, CA). When I picked up my order I was happy to see that they had vegan cookies for dessert. The cookies came from Mimi's Cookie Bar. I wasn't crazy about the cookies but that could be because they were gluten free. Sometimes gluten free sweets have a different taste that I don't find to be as pleasing as non gluten free goodies.
